StarMicronics TSP650-2 WebPrint Setup (Tyro)

Initial Setup

Because the StarMicronics TSP650-2 WebPrint is a cloud based printer, the printer will require an Ethernet cable running from the printer to your router/modem.

Downloading the StarMicronics TSP650-2 WebPrint Driver

Download the StarMicronics driver by clicking the link below:

  • Download Ethernet driver here!
  • After you have downloaded the file, open it up and navigate to the installer file. ( "starprnt_v2.2_setup_64bit" --> "SetUp" --> "PrinterSoftware-2.2-2.2-Release_x64" )
  • Run the installation process (Typical Install)

You will now need to search for and open the "Printer Utility StarPRNT" that has just installed to your PC. Once you have opened this you will have to add a new printer to the Utility.

  1. From the list you need to select the "TSP654II" with "StarLine Mode" selected next to Emulation. Click Next
  2. Once you have reached the next screen, you need to select an "Ethernet" connection type. Click on "Search Network" to obtain your new web printers I.P address.
  3. Important Note!! You must record the returned I.P address (top box) once the search has completed. This will be required to print in SWIM.
    Your I.P address will be four sets of number separated by full stops eg-100.100.10.10
  4. Click "Done" and name your printer something simple eg-"StarWeb".
  5. After you have clicked "Done", you will be taken back to the main screen of the setup utility, you now need to click on the link labelled "Windows Printer Queue Management", then select "Add".
  6. Give the printer the same name as above eg-"StarWeb". Once you have named it, click on "TestPrint" to ensure you were successful.
  7. Close the Utility

Inputting your printers I.P address into SWIM

Having recorded your printers I.P address in the setup, you will now need to setup cloud printing in SWIM.

  • Open up the SWIM utilities. Go to "Printing", then click on "Cloud Printing".
  • Enter your printers I.P address into the box and click save.
Manually obtaining your printers I.P address
If you forgot to record the printers IP address during the driver installation, you can manually obtain the address by following these steps.
  • Turn the printer off using the power switch on the side of the Unit
  • Hold the feed button and turn the print back on. Continue to hold the feed button
  • Hold the feed button for eight seconds, during this time the printer will print out two documents. After you release the feed button, the printer will print out a third document.
  • At the bottom of the third printout, you will be able to read the "IP Address"

Enabling Mixed-Content Blocking in Firefox

To allow Firefox to use the webprinter, you will have to allow mixed-content within the browser. To do this follow the steps below:

  1. Open up a new tab within Firefox.
  2. Type into the address bar: about:config and click enter.
  3. A warning prompt might appear confirming if you are sure, click yes.
  4. At the top of the list there is a search bar, copy and paste the following: security.mixed_content.block_active_content
  5. This option should now be visible in the list, right click on it and select Toggle until it's value is false.

Troubleshooting the printer

Error Message - "Printer Error": If you receive this, there is a high chance that the IP address of your WebPrinter is incorrect.
