QR codes provide a secure and efficient alternative to traditional passwords for staff login in Swim. This feature is enabled by default, but if it has been previously disabled, you can re-enable it by following the steps outlined below.
Prerequisites
Before setting up QR code login, make sure you have the following:
- A camera: The device you're using to access Swim must have a camera that can scan QR codes.
- A way to generate a unique QR code: You will need software to create secure, unique QR codes for each staff member. We recommend using Adobe’s QR Code Generator as a free option.
Steps to Create a Secure QR Code
-
Generate a Unique QR Code for Each Staff Member
Using your chosen QR code generation tool (e.g., Adobe QR Code Generator):- Enter a unique value for each staff member. This could be a unique identifier or unique password. The key is that each staff member must have their own, distinct QR code.
- The value must be unique and securely tied to the individual staff member's account.
- If you are using Adobe QR Code Generator the unique password should be entered in the URL field.
-
Download and Print the QR Code
Once the QR code is generated, download the image and print it onto a durable ID card or another material of your choice. -
Assign the QR Code to a User Account in Swim
- Navigate to Utilities > Users > Manage Users in Swim.
- Find the user account you want to assign the QR code to, and click Edit User next to their name.
- At the bottom right of the user details screen, click Set QR Code Password.
- Hold the printed QR code in view of your camera to scan it and assign it to the user account.
-
Repeat for Other Users
Repeat the process for all other staff members who need a QR code for login.
How to Log in to Swim Using a QR Code
-
Go to the Login Screen
On the individual staff login screen, click the QR Code logo located next to the password field. -
Scan the QR Code
Place your unique QR code in view of your device’s camera. The system will automatically authenticate the QR code, logging you in without needing to enter a password.
Troubleshooting
- QR Code Not Scanning: Ensure the QR code is clear and properly positioned within the camera's view.
- Invalid QR Code: Double-check that the QR code value matches the one assigned to the staff member's account in Swim.
- Camera Issues: If your device doesn't have a working camera, QR code login will not be possible. Ensure your device has an active camera and that the camera is working properly.
This QR code login method provides an added layer of security and convenience, eliminating the need for traditional passwords and speeding up the login process for staff members.
How to disable QR code logins
-
Navigate to Utilities > System > Security
-
Disable the option Enable QR Code User Login and click save settings.
